Making a mark – self portrait 2012

This was my entry for the portrait groups ( life painting) exhibition for 2012. I wanted to capture the intent look I get as I have a loaded brush and am about to place the paint. The portrait won the $750 1st prize in the Dobell Art Show that year and was featured in the paper.
As this portrait was just for me I didn’t worry about whether it was flattering – I accentuated any wrinkles etc to enable me to add some colour! lol’s
Obviously with a commissioned portrait we want a flattering painting!
