Scoobie
30 x 40cms
unframed Pastel

' WOW!!! That looks absolutely stunning!
You've got the expression down pat.
We are so looking forward to getting him! You have been able to capture the "essence" of Scoobie - he looks so serene!"
Lindsay & Jo

'We received Scoobie's portrait yesterday! (so quick!)

He looks absolutely stunning - so much better than the photo!!!

Thanks so much for creating such a wonderful keepsake for us!'

Lindsay & Jo

'Alex is a jockey and sadly lost her favourite horse Country Tide. She contacted me wanting a portrait to help ease the pain of losing him. She had a lovely photo of the two of them but it was taken inside a stable via a mobile phone and wasn't really sharp or clear enough for me to create a good portrait from.

She had other clearer photos of Country but she really loved this photo which shows the connection the two of them had.

I knew it would be difficult but I could see how much it meant to her and suggested that if she could find a similar horse I could come and take some extra photos .With those to help I was able to create their portrait although it certainly wasn't an easy task!

Below are the original photo and the finished portrait.

The original reference photo -

From looking at other photos of Country I could see that this photo didn't really do him justice. He looks really dark and drab here. You can't see his eye, or any of the structure of his head and Alex's face is all overexposed.

I painted this as a memory of Bonnie who had to be put down soon after I completed her commissioned portrait. I painted her younger in her prime so the painting would be a happy memory.

(Bonnie is a secret Xmas gift.)

I asked Mel if she got her home without being discovered.

"My mum saw me carry it in but I kept it hidden under the blanket. Bonnie has picked up a bit again which is good
I love it it looks great.

I showed my neigbour and she nearly cried and said it looks so life like and that they should love it. I have even found a spot where I reckon they should hang it. I can't wait for Christmas to give it to them. I wanted to give it to them the other day."

' ' Wow he is absolutely spectacular ! I knew once I saw the portrait in the flesh I would love him.
I couldn't stop admiring him but had to package him back up and wait!

I have been patiently waiting 65 days since he arrived to be able to give to and see Jeff's reaction on his birthday.

 Karen

The day-

' I was so excited about giving the portrait to Jeff. Finally the moment had arrived and the unveiling was taking place. He was actually speechless when he saw it. It seemed like he didn't say anything for an eternity. His expression was one of full emotion, it moved him that much. He didn't need to say anything his face said it all. He was , is , so delighted with it.

Once again thankyou Sue.

With our heartfelt thanks ,

'I was excited by the idea of having a painting done of my son Aymon and my dog Aussie. With my husbands 50th pending I decided it would be the perfect gift! From my initial enquiry to the finished... painting, Sue has been fantastic! Expert advice, excellent communication and I have a painting that far exceeded my expectations and I will treasure (even though it’s Graeme’s pressie) forever. Thanks Sue.'
Fiona

'Graeme loved the painting!  Not what he was expecting, looks fantastic above Aymon’s piano.'

Ziggy & Darby

'I wanted to thank you for the lovely portrait you painted of my schnauzers. We cant believe how well you have captured both of the boys, especially Ziggy. I look at the painting sometimes and I think I know exactly what Ziggy might be thinking. We miss him terribly but having this painting to look at helps. Thank you. '

I've done many portraits for Carol who has a security and dog training business

http://www.shadowhawk.com.au/

We were concentrating on her own dogs that had passed away. She intended to do a portrait of her sisters dogs as a present at some time. Her sister recently lost Ziggy unexpectedly so Carol moved this portrait forward. She had just taken some photos of both dogs the week before Ziggy died but was disappointed when she saw the photos as both dogs had their eyes in shadow .Always look for things like that when you take photos ( digital cameras are great as you can generally check what you have taken then and there).Retake them from a different angle to the sun. The photo was also very boring and  B and W in colour - but it WAS sharp!

I chose this photo of the two from a lot Carol supplied as I thought it had potential for a nice design in a portrait. Carol said I could enhance the colours .I changed the postions of the dogs for a better design and it also meant Ziggy ( who passed away) would be at the front.

"I received the picture this morning in the mail and it is AMAZING!  I can't wait to give it to Simon, fortunately this year is flying past so a month shouldn't take too long.  I did have to give it to one of the girls here to look after at her house though so I didn't give in to temptation!  The way you captured their personalities is incredible, I almost want to pat Peppy's outstretched muzzle. Thanks again, the portrait is fantastic.  I'll let you know Simon's reaction next month! "

 Kelva

'When Simon saw the portrait he was quite speechless, and  anyone who knows Simon will know that this is no mean feat!.  He couldn't believe the likeness and how you captured their characters perfectly.  It is quite incredible considering the lack of quality photos that you had to work with!  Thank you so much for doing such a wonderful job of bringing our mares back to "life", we feel like they're still with us in a way.'

Kelva

( Both mares had died of separate accidents within 3 weeks of each other. We only had mobile phone photos for reference and they weren't very good so I'm glad the portrait turned out as well as it did!- Sue)

Aarky!

22 x 25cms

  Framed Pastel

posthumous portrait

Aarky died unexpectedly and Jessica wanted a suprise portrait for her mother on Mother's day. She didn't have many good photos of him.

The original reference photo ( below) wasn't good enough - too dark , blurry and drab.

I managed to find a photo of his head that would fit on a good photo of his body and created the portrait you see on the left.

Not a great reference photo- blurry and flashed out eyes but it was the only one that suited the pose.

Nice photo for his lovely blue coat  but we also wanted to show his lovely green eyes so that's where my creativity came in!

Usually I'd say it wasn't possible to paint from these photos but I wanted to do my best to create a portrait for them to remember him and the good times.

"We LOVE it .You've done an awesome job!! Thank you.

Thanks again - you've done an amazing job capturing him!"

Kimberly

This is a posthumous portrait of Gruff a lovely Staffy who was lost as a result of the Queensland floods. He was sent to a property while his owners flew home and  was bitten by a snake & died. He was only 3 1/2 years old and sounded like a one in a million little dog so his owners were devastated. I hope the portrait can give them years of lovely memories and help ease the pain of his death.

'Thanks so much for painting our boat. What a fabulous surprise and the perfect present! – well done.'

Steve

We had a photo of an Endurance 40 boat sailing but I had to customise it to look like Orac so I needed additional reference photos taken .When I asked Steve if he suspected anything with all the extra photo's his wife was taking of the boat he said-
"Totally oblivious. Didn’t even occur to me there was anything happening.
Thanks again Sue. Very happy with the painting."

This is one I did for myself. I've been trying to get a decent photo of us for years without luck so I decided to make my 'ideal' painting! I picked a happy photo of us both from a few years back. Zeuss's pose wasn't very good nor mine but I fixed that in the portrait and also slimmed myself down..LOL's..Because I was pleasing myself I also zapped up the colour a lot as I love colour!
