In Loving memory of Pets that have passed away

Portraits I have created to ease the pain

Page 1

These Portraits have been done from the best photo's available.

No- one wants to think that  their "beloved mate " might die, especially before their time. I find it very rewarding to be able to ease the pain of the loss with one of my paintings..

It's sad when people contact me wanting to get a posthumous portrait and I have to tell them it isn't possible using the blurry or small photos they have. I will generally try to paint a portrait if possible, even if  the photo's available are not as good as we would like . For those that have pet's that are healthy - make sure you take plenty of nice clear photo's so that if the worse occurs it's  still possible to commission a painting and remember the good times.

Country Tide & Alex

'Alex is a jockey and sadly lost her favourite horse Country Tide. She contacted me wanting a portrait to help ease the pain of losing him. She had a lovely photo of the two of them but it was taken inside a stable via a mobile phone and wasn't really sharp or clear enough for me to create a good portrait from.

She had other clearer photos of Country but she really loved this photo which shows the connection the two of them had.

I knew it would be difficult but I could see how much it meant to her and suggested that if she could find a similar horse I could come and take some extra photos .With those to help I was able to create their portrait although it certainly wasn't an easy task!

Below are the original photo and the finished portrait.

The original reference photo -

From looking at other photos of Country I could see that this photo didn't really do him justice. He looks really dark and drab here. You can't see his eye, or any of the structure of his head and Alex's face is all overexposed.

Dear Sue

Back in October last year I knew my time with my beautiful German Shepherd Jessie was coming to an end.  I didn’t know when but I knew I must start my search for the person who could capture her essence forever on canvas.  A search of the entire world using the web provided an enormous amount of choice.  The location of the artist I was planning to choose was only a minor consideration.  I needed to know the person I chose had the gift I knew I needed them to have.   You were the one I chose.

At the end of December the time had come for me to say good bye to Jessie and it was dreadfully heartbreaking.  I had your details and wrote to you soon after.   You responded immediately and I was impressed by your compassion and professionalism.

You worked with me to ensure I was happy every step of the way.  From the initial photos to your first sketch, I knew I could trust you and I really did appreciate the way you stayed in touch with me.  I think I was still very much in the initial stages of grieving and somehow you knew that and your sensitivity was incredibly helpful to me throughout the entire process.

But nothing, absolutely nothing could have prepared me for the moment I opened up the canvas and saw your painting of Jessie.  It was as if she had been there in the flesh with you and you had known her always.  Incredibly your painting is almost three dimensional and you have truly captured Jessie on canvas, forever.  I am in awe of the way you have managed to capture her eyes and her personality.  Everyone has said the same.

I am now in possession of the most precious item in the world to me. I have the most beautiful portrait of my beloved Jessie, painted by a truly remarkable Australian artist, Sue Linton.  I am incredibly grateful to you Sue.   You have the rarest of gifts in being able to reflect the truth through your art and I could have never made a better decision than the day I chose you.  Thank you.

Kindest regards always

Leigh

" Thank you Sue, so much for my beautiful painting, it means more to me that I can put into words.

Even though you never actually met Oscar you have still managed to capture his personality.

To quote my friend Kym, who came with me to collect the painting, “You haven’t just painted a picture of a pet

Australian Blue Cattle Dog, you’ve painted Oscar’.

'I wanted to thank you for the lovely portrait you painted of my schnauzers. We cant believe how well you have captured both of the boys, especially Ziggy. I look at the painting sometimes and I think I know exactly what Ziggy might be thinking. We miss him terribly but having this painting to look at helps. Thank you.'

I've done many portraits for Carol who has a security and dog training business

http://www.shadowhawk.com.au/

We were concentrating on her own dogs that had passed away. She intended to do a portrait of her sisters dogs as a present at some time. Her sister recently lost Ziggy unexpectedly so Carol moved this portrait forward. She had just taken some photos of both dogs the week before Ziggy died but was disappointed when she saw the photos as both dogs had their eyes in shadow .Always look for things like that when you take photos ( digital cameras are great as you can generally check what you have taken then and there).Retake them from a different angle to the sun. The photo was also very boring and  B and W in colour - but it WAS sharp!

I chose this photo of the two from a lot Carol supplied as I thought it had potential for a nice design in a portrait. Carol said I could enhance the colours .I changed the postions of the dogs for a better design and it also meant Ziggy ( who passed away) would be at the front.

"I received the picture this morning in the mail and it is AMAZING!  I can't wait to give it to Simon, fortunately this year is flying past so a month shouldn't take too long.  I did have to give it to one of the girls here to look after at her house though so I didn't give in to temptation!  The way you captured their personalities is incredible, I almost want to pat Peppy's outstretched muzzle. Thanks again, the portrait is fantastic.  I'll let you know Simon's reaction next month! "

( Both mares had died of separate accidents within 3 weeks of each other. We only had mobile phone photos for reference and they weren't very good so I'm glad the portrait turned out as well as it did!- Sue)

Gruff

"We LOVE it .You've done an awesome job!! Thank you.

Thanks again - you've done an amazing job capturing him!"

Kimberly

This is a postumous portrait of Gruff a lovely Staffy who was lost as a result of the Queensland floods. He was sent to a property while his owners flew home and  was bitten by a snake & died. He was only 3 1/2 years old and sounded like a one in a million little dog so his owners were devastated. I hope the portrait can give them years of lovely memories and help ease the pain of his death.

"Thank you very much for the beautiful

painting of " our kids ". It brought tears to my eyes

when I saw the finished painting and

Barry was lost for words and got

emotional when he was given the painting.

It's now hanging up in the family room where

it can be seen all the time.

Griff and Harley "the kids " will always be with us now. "

" I hope all went well with your Demonstration

at the weekend and we would have gone if we'd known earlier .

Our painting has pride of place in the family room and brings us joy each time we look at it.

We don't think Harley will be with us too much longer ,

so the painting is especially loved ."

Ursula

Griff ( Rottwieler ) had passed away a few years earlier .

Harley has died since the portrait was painted.
