'... I've been meaning to write to you anyway to say that my older dog Tasha is getting pretty old.  She's blind, deaf, senile.  She has a good

appetite and so far her hips are holding out.  But the reason I was going to write to you was to say that now that she's no longer the dog I

knew, having the painting of her that you did of a couple years ago reminds me of the way she was.  People might say that photos can do the

same thing, but I think your painting really captured the essence of her that a photo doesn't.'

Marybeth

My painting's can bring your pet to life much better than any photograph.

Although I work from photos , as an artist I can selectively enhance , play down or remove areas to come up with a painting that really captures them for a lifetime of treasured memories.

For a gift that nothing else can match, a painting of a  pet is a unique gift that will touch the hearts of all  involved.

Each painting is a unique and passionate creation and  much  time is taken  to ensure it captures not only a likeness but also the essence of your pet.

If you have ever taken a photo of a few pets you will know that it's  practically impossible to take a group photo of animals and have every one looking it's best. As an artist , with suitable photos , I can  choose the best poses of each animal and then combine these photos into a  flattering  group painting.

Please enjoy seeing samples of my previous work and if you would like to capture a lifetime of precious memories in a painting I look forward to hearing from you.

New portrait option!

You can now have a one colour line sketch of your pet created on a gallery wrap canvas ready to hang.

30 x 40cms gallery wrap canvas ready to hang $250

Choice of colour available.

Email me to discuss your ideas!

Don't worry other than a small signature  my name won't be on it like this - that's just internet copywrite protection.

'Alex is a jockey and sadly lost her favourite horse Country Tide. She contacted me wanting a portrait to help ease the pain of losing him. She had a lovely photo of the two of them but it was taken inside a stable via a mobile phone and wasn't really sharp or clear enough for me to create a good portrait from.

She had other clearer photos of Country but she really loved this photo which shows the connection the two of them had.

I knew it would be difficult but I could see how much it meant to her and suggested that if she could find a similar horse I could come and take some extra photos .With those to help I was able to create their portrait although it certainly wasn't an easy task!

Below are the original photo and the finished portrait.

The original reference photo -

From looking at other photos of Country I could see that this photo didn't really do him justice. He looks really dark and drab here. You can't see his eye, or any of the structure of his head and Alex's face is all overexposed.

 Oil

' Fantastic!'

 Alex

Portrait - I used 14 different photos to come up with the portrait.

The reference photo we had of Gruff wasn't very good. It was a full body one ( I'm just showing the head here) but his face wasn't very clear . I ad libbed a bit and used another better photo of a similar dog to help me  complete the portrait. As you can see Gruff's face in the portrait is much more expressive than in the photo. It doesn't look exactly like the photo as I've enhanced the light etc but it still looks like Gruff which is the important thing!

"Gruff has arrived – how fast is that Courier – it arrived in perfect condition and super fast so that’s awesome.

Now to the painting – ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!  I was trying to get ready for work this morning but kept getting distracted looking at him … you have just captured him so well, His face stands out so well and his eyes are so perfect, they have sparkle in them. His white chin and his smile – its all so so perfect - all the different colours used to get that perfect match, so much depth to the painting –  we really cant thank you enough!

You have really given us something we will treasure forever and something that does help with the loss of Gruff. When I look at the painting it makes me so happy to remember him for the good times and makes me feel so proud of him.

We are still debating the perfect spot to hang him so I will let you know when he is officially on the wall.

Thankyou thankyou thankyou from the bottom of our hearts."

A portrait makes a unique and heartfelt gift. Gift certificates + Laybyes available.

Liz , Liz & Emma

This is the second of 4 portraits I am doing for Carole. All the portraits will be on the one wall which is why I have made the colours  similar. Many of her dogs  passed away years ago and we had to really scratch around to find photos , some of the which were very poor quality. Both Liz's here have passed on .Liz on the left only a few weeks ago due to a tick bite. We hadn't bothered getting photos of the living dogs but her unexpected death made us realise how important it is to have decent photos. I have since been out and taken photos of all the rest of the dogs so if the unthinkable happens we can continue with the portraits and immortalise them like the others.

'I received the painting yesterday. It is beautiful it looks exactly like him, when I showed mum my she was so happy and could not believe how good it had turned out its really just like a mirror image of Banjo. I just want to thank you for the wonderful job you have done it has been the best gift I have ever given any one'
Kendra

" She won't receive a gift like this from anyone else!"

Julie

"Thankyou for a most beautiful painting , it is so lifelike and truly captures the characters of both dogs.

Unfortunately we lost Missey just before Christmas and when I gave Harry the painting for Christmas he was overcome with emotion. He absolutely loved it and it is now in  the dining room where we can see it  throughout the day. Whenever we look at it it brings back beautiful  memories of the life Harry & Missey  had together and the joy that  Missey brought into our lives.

Once again thank you so much for a beautiful painting. We will cherish it forever."

Harry & Sue

I don't want my portraits to look like the reference photo. I want them to be better than the photo.

I often use more than one photo as reference for your portrait so I can create a portrait that is really alive. Although  people may say my portraits are detailed they are selectively detailed.  Have you ever taken  a photo because of the loving look in your pets eye or the cute angle of their head then been disappointed when you view your photo and wonder why you took it?  This is often because everything in your photo has been given equal importance and detail and the feeling  gets lost in this detail. As an artist I can enhance important features so that the cute or loving  expression is once again what you notice when you look at the portrait . Whenever you view your portrait you can once again feel that connection.

If you are after a quality portrait that looks like YOUR pet- not just a generic animal , is anatomically correct, colourful , soulful and lifelike with a satisfaction guarantee, I'm your artist.

If you don't love your painting and I can't change it so you do I will refund your investment.

I love it it looks great.

I showed my neigbour and she nearly cried and said it looks so life like and that they should love it. I have even found a spot where I reckon they should hang it. I can't wait for Christmas to give it to them. I wanted to give it to them the other day."

( John Boy is now 32 and looking a bit worse for wear. We created a portrait of him in his prime as a surprise birthday gift for Karen's husband Jeff )

' ' Wow he is absolutely spectacular ! I knew once I saw the portrait in the flesh I would love him.
I couldn't stop admiring him but had to package him back up and wait!

I have been patiently waiting 65 days since he arrived to be able to give to and see Jeff's reaction.

 Karen

The day-

' I was so excited about giving the portrait to Jeff. Finally the moment had arrived and the unveiling was taking place. He was actually speechless when he saw it. It seemed like he didn't say anything for an eternity. His expression was one of full emotion, it moved him that much. He didn't need to say anything his face said it all. He was , is , so delighted with it.

Once again thankyou Sue.

Expert advice, excellent communication and I have a painting that far exceeded my expectations and I will treasure (even though it’s Graeme’s pressie) forever. Thanks Sue.'

"I received the picture this morning in the mail and it is AMAZING!  I can't wait to give it to Simon, fortunately this year is flying past so a month shouldn't take too long.  I did have to give it to one of the girls here to look after at her house though so I didn't give in to temptation!  The way you captured their personalities is incredible, I almost want to pat Peppy's outstretched muzzle. Thanks again, the portrait is fantastic.  I'll let you know Simon's reaction next month! "

 Kelva

'When Simon saw the portrait he was quite speechless, and  anyone who knows Simon will know that this is no mean feat!.  He couldn't believe the likeness and how you captured their characters perfectly.  It is quite incredible considering the lack of quality photos that you had to work with!  Thank you so much for doing such a wonderful job of bringing our mares back to "life", we feel like they're still with us in a way.'

Kelva

( Both mares had died of separate accidents within 3 weeks of each other. We only had mobile phone photos for reference and they weren't very good so I'm glad the portrait turned out as well as it did!- Sue)

I've done many portraits for Carol who has a security and dog training business

http://www.shadowhawk.com.au/

We were concentrating on her own dogs that had passed away. She intended to do a portrait of her sister's dogs as a present at some time. Her sister recently lost Ziggy unexpectedly so Carol moved this portrait forward. She had just taken some photos of both dogs the week before Ziggy died but was disappointed when she saw the photos as both dogs had their eyes in shadow .Always look for things like that when you take photos ( digital cameras are great as you can generally check what you have taken then and there).

Retake them from a different angle to the sun. The photo was also very boring and  B and W in colour - but it WAS sharp!

I chose this photo of the two from a lot Carol supplied as I thought it had potential for a nice design in a portrait. Carol said I could enhance the colours .I changed the positions of the dogs for a better design and it also meant Ziggy ( who passed away) would be at the front.

posthumous portrait

Aarky died unexpectedly and Jessica wanted a suprise portrait for her mother on Mother's day. She didn't have many good photos of him.

The original reference photo ( below) wasn't good enough - too dark , blurry and drab.

I managed to find a photo of his head that would fit on a good photo of his body and created the portrait you see on the left.

Not a great reference photo- blurry and flashed out eyes but it was the only one that suited the pose.

Nice photo for his lovely blue coat  but we also wanted to show his lovely green eyes so that's where my creativity came in!

Usually I'd say it wasn't possible to paint from these photos but I wanted to do my best to create a portrait for them to remember him and the good times.

Thanks again - you've done an amazing job capturing him!"

We LOVE the photo you’ve sent us of him … now we just cant wait for it to be framed and arrive   VERY exciting!!

Kimberly

This is a posthumous portrait of Gruff a lovely Staffy who was lost as a result of the Queensland floods. He was sent to a property while his owners flew home and  was bitten by a snake & died. He was only 3 1/2 years old and sounded like a one in a million little dog so his owners were devastated. I hope the portrait can give them years of lovely memories and help ease the pain of his death.
