You can choose from  a variety of styles when I paint your portrait. Click here to see examples of my  traditional style  or my more contemporary style.

I'm currently working on a more contemporary style portrait of my mother Betty Linton OAM  to enter in the Archibald art prize. It's a work under construction but you can follow it's progress at my Blog or Facebook pages.

'I was excited by the idea of having a painting done of my son Aymon and my dog Aussie. With my husbands 50th pending I decided it would be the perfect gift! From my initial enquiry to the finished... painting, Sue has been fantastic! Expert advice, excellent communication and I have a painting that far exceeded my expectations and I will treasure (even though it’s Graeme’s pressie) forever. Thanks Sue.'
Fiona

'Graeme loved the painting!  Not what he was expecting, looks fantastic above Aymon’s piano.'

Sue -

" I painted Isobel's portrait from several photos.  I often don't like to show my reference photos as I sometimes use several photos to guide me for a portrait. I use the photos as a starting point and don't slavishly copy them so often the painting will not look exactly as the photo. I want each portrait  painting to be better than the photo.

Here I downplayed any wrinkles Isobel had as although I wanted to show a mature Isobel I wanted the focus to be her lovely personality. "

"This is my entry for the 2011 Inglis Equine Art Prize for Thoroughbred racehorses. I had to go to a TB stud and take reference photos and do a painting with the theme 'Life at Stud'. 'Thongy' is a 9 month old weanling and was being prepared for the sales. He was everyones favourite and they were going to miss him. He ended up being a favourite at the sales and selling for top price. He has now gone to New Zealand."

More Contemporary Portraits - For something a bit different & more colourful!

These portraits were done in 2.30hrs from a model ( rather than a photo). These are just as they were when we ran out of time. I don't do anymore to them when I get home. I do these regularly and use the time to experiment with colour and train my eye. Your eye can pickup details and colours from a live model that a photo never shows. Although these 'studies" are more radical than my commissioned portraits it is by doing them that I get the experience to be able to inject life into a portrait done by a photo. Rather than just copying the photo I can add subtle colours to give a much more realistic portrait.

If you would like a more contemporary look you can commission me to do something like these portraits. Remember with your finished portrait you still get to say whether you like it or want it changed!

Commission a portrait - and tell me which portraits you prefer so I know your taste.
